Illuminating Your Coach Holiday in Blackpool

Let’s face it. Blackpool ROCKS!  It’s been a favourite destination for UK holiday makers for generations, and it’s still the first place you think about when you hear the words: British Seaside Holiday.

It’s a place that caters for anyone and everyone and welcomes tens of thousands of people to its shores every day.  There’s a reason for that…it’s got all the attractions you want from a UK coastline holiday, plus much more!

The best fish n’ chips, 2p slot machines, arcades and ice-cream – and there are more BnB’s than you can imagine in the town. Some great, many not-so great! But stays at hotels such as the Royal Seabank and Royal Boston hotels pretty much guarantee the ultimate UK seaside break – especially if you’re thinking about coach holidays to Blackpool.

Sights to see in Blackpool

The variety of entertainment and things to do means Blackpool has lots of things for everyone. Its most unique and obvious landmark is Blackpool Tower, sitting at 158 metres high. Would you go to the top? It offers views for miles across Blackpool, the north-west of England, and across the Irish Sea.

And then of course, there’s the iconic Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Fast, family fun for the entire family – with rides such as The Icon, The Big One, Gallopers Carousel, Alice In Wonderland Dark Ride and the classic Big Dipper which is now 100 years old.

If you do like to be beside the seaside, Blackpool’s three piers are open to everyone. The North Pier comes with Grade II listed status, and the sandy beach welcomes families and friends of all ages to build sandcastles and eat ice-creams along the prom.

Hungry? Thirsty? No problem!

Food and drink? Blackpool is awash with places to eat, including loads of fish and chip shops! And if you want a tipple or two there’s a large number of pubs and bars to choose from, all age groups are catered for.

Of course, if you come to the seaside one of the things you're likely to want to do is swim! Well - you're spoilt for choice with beaches and sea. The South Beach has a Blue Flag beach status, meaning it offers excellent sea quality, or if the kids are wanting an indoor splash around, the Sandcastle will take care of that for you.

Wow...we haven’t even mentioned Blackpool Illuminations yet! But, do they need an introduction?  The greatest free light show in the world runs from August to January every year, bringing the evening to life all along the golden mile.

Famous Blackpool people…

Acts like Cannon and Ball and Morcambe and Wise used to sell-out hundreds of shows in Blackpool, and there's also been a fair few celebs who were born in the British Seaside Resort.

  • Radio 2’s Zoe Ball is one, born here in 1970.
  • Respected musicians Robert Smith (The Cure), Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills and Nash) and Chris Lowe (Pet Shop Boys) hail from the coastal town too.
  • Actress Jenna Coleman hails from Blackpool.
  • Comedian Les Dawson was a Blackpool favourite, and he’s buried just up the road in Lytham St-Annes (where there’s also a wonderful statue of the funny man).
  • And if you want to spot more famous people, there’s Madame Tussaud’s waxwork museum to enjoy, where you can flood your social media with selfies of you and all the stars!

Fun fact:

Did you know...? Blackpool gets its name from an old drainage channel that used to release dark, boggy water into the Irish sea, creating a black pool of water?  And across the sea, 'Dublin' is named after the same thing, with 'Dubh Linn' meaning 'black pool' in Irish.
