Travel Insurance? Snacks? Vital Tips for Your Next Coach Holiday

11 February 2025

In all the excitement of going on holiday, there are so many things we forget to do or take for granted that comes to mind when it’s a little too late!

So, we’ve decided to put together a checklist of handy hacks and useful tips to sort out in the days and weeks before you go away on your Caledonian coach break.

How many of these do you already take care of, and what others could you add?

1. Tagging yourself in!

Now, put your social media down for a second. We’re not talking about THAT kind of tagging. Remember the days where EVERY piece of holiday luggage had a tag? What happened to that? It seems to be a thing of the past now, and with so many tag-free cases that all look the same…how do people actually KNOW if it’s theirs?

We handle thousands of passenger bags every day and we’ve seen enough ‘cases’ of mistaken identity to know that a luggage label can save a lot of unnecessary kerbside bag opening and needless roadside unpacking when your suitcase looks like everybody else’s! And taking a spare is a good idea too, just in case your first one breaks, gets wet, or gets lost!

In fact, you can click here to print your own Caledonian Travel luggage labels, and fix them to your bags!

2. Safety First, Fun Always!

While it might sound a little serious, taking out travel insurance is your ticket to worry-free fun. Imagine not having to stress about lost luggage, medical emergencies, or other unexpected issues.

With good travel insurance, you can focus entirely on enjoying your holiday. It’s worth reading the policy details too – make sure you know what you’re covered for, and that it suits your needs. Take a look at our travel insurance policy, perfect for your next coach holiday.

3. Comfort is essential.

Nowadays, coach journeys are always pleasant and Caledonian Travel coaches always give you a very comfortable ride. But sitting back and relaxing can be very tiring work, so maximising your levels of comfort for the body and the mind is important.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and supportive footwear. Bring snacks and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. A travel pillow works wonders for comfort, especially when you want to get some sleep on the journey.

And don’t forget to bring entertainment such as books, magazines, or downloaded shows and music (more of that later) to keep you occupied during your time on the road.

4. Gourmet Snacking!

Sandwiches are great. But they can be a bit boring! There’s a difference to filling your belly and making it happy – so a bit of creative cuisine for your coach break can add a little bit of on-the-road culinary excitement.

Think Avocado and Honey bagels, Taco bowls, or exotic fruit salad skewers! A sugar kick is often the order of the day, so grab a bag of your favourite sweets – and sharing interesting snacks can also be a great icebreaker with fellow travellers, and a nice way to make new friends.

5. Pleasure on the ears

Music lover? Sitting back with your earphones in means you can tune into your favourite songs and playlists once again. Curating a mix of upbeat tunes, classic hits, and a few relaxing tracks for those scenic stretches will help the time and the miles fly by.

If music isn’t your thing, how about an audiobook or podcast? There’s a huge range of topics and genres out there such as sport, comedy, banking and insurance, food, theatre and more…there’s sure to be something to pique your interest.

6. Make connections

Part of the charm of a coach holiday is the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Be open to socialising with fellow travellers from the moment the coach sets off; you might make some future travel companions or learn valuable tips about your destinations.

Sharing stories and experiences can make your trip a memorable one – because the people you meet make it just as much as the places you visit.

7. Games on the go

Even in this digital age, you can’t beat those good old classic travel games. Bring along a deck of cards, a travel Scrabble set, ludo or Top Trumps (everybody forgets how good Top Trumps is!) – or if you must keep it digital, download fun travel game apps on your phone.

With the family? You can also create a scavenger hunt or bingo game using sights and landmarks you'll pass along the way. Winner gets bragging rights or a fun prize!

8. Map your adventure

We’re all for spontaneity and spur-of-the-moment exploring. But planning an itinerary ahead of time ensures you make the most of your break. Research the destinations, and make a note of any must-see attractions, restaurants, or events.

Having a clear plan helps you prioritise your time and avoid missing out on important experiences. Caledonian Travel offers UK coach holidays with full itineraries, but with lots of free time factored in too.

9. Document your journey

When we say ‘Document’ your journey, we’re not talking about your coach holiday tickets or travel insurance. Everywhere you go on your coach break is an exciting chapter in your travel story, and it’s important to take lots of photos, and maybe even keep a fun travel journal, or even start a blog and write about your adventures (tag us in your socials, let's see where you are!)

Caledonian Travel Coach Holiday Drivers

10. Thank your driver

Seasoned UK coach holidaymakers will know that the people at the wheel are more than just a driver. They’re tour guides, entertainers, and will go out of their way to make sure you have a holiday to remember.

They end up becoming your friends! So, when you’re on your way home be sure to jump on to Facebook and TrustPilot and tell the world how fantastic they’ve been, and what a pleasure it’s been to be in their safe hands.

So…packed your games? Made your snacks? Got your travel insurance? Wherever you’re heading on your next coach holiday, make memories, make friends, and make the most of it!
