Fort William

Set in a beautiful location at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain’s largest mountain, and overlooking the tranquil Loch Linnhe, the bustling resort of Fort William is the perfect place to visit on a coach trip to enjoy Scotland’s stunning scenery.

Explore Fort William, a bustling town in the West Highlands of Scotland, set in a stunning location on the west coast of the country.

Overlooking the tranquil sea loch of Loch Linnhe, Fort William is a perfect holiday destination in a scenic area. The town enjoys an enviable position at the foot of Ben Nevis, Great Britain’s highest peak, and is often described as the Outdoor Capital of the UK.

With its dramatic hills, sandy beaches, castles and distilleries, the area is visited by many tourists every year. It's also home to other visitor attractions including the West Highland Museum and the Jacobite Steam Train which is one of the greatest railway journeys in the world. Embrace the wonderful fresh air as you discover the region’s mountains, coastline, lochs and glens. One of the largest towns south of Inverness, Fort William is the perfect location for an unforgettable coach holiday

Oban

Translated in Scottish Gaelic, Oban means The Little Bay, and people remember this beautiful area for many reasons. Tourists love eating Oban’s fantastic seafood, admiring its breathtaking scenery, and immersing themselves in the town’s history.

And in summer, tourists love watching its spectacular sunsets.

Oban is the biggest town between Helensburgh and Fort William and is a popular tourist hub on the Northwest coast of Scotland that leads to many of the area’s surrounding islands and historic sites.

With its sweeping bay, beautiful harbour and stunning scenic views, Oban has been a popular visitor destination since Victorian times.

Did you know? Oban and neighbouring Lorn have a long and interesting history which began in the Dark Ages with Kings and Chiefs building castles and forts along the coast. In 500AD a powerful Irish Lord named Loairn established his Kingdom just outside Oban at Dunollie and gave his name to the district.

The Jacobite Steam Train - West Coast Railways

One train ride you don’t want to miss
The 84-mile return trip on the Jacobite Steam Train departs from Fort William, a town set in the shadow of Ben Nevis – and follows a scenic and memorable route to the busy fishing village of Mallaig (just in time for a fish and chip lunch!). The famous tour won Wanderlust Magazine’s poll for Top Rail Journey in The World 2009 – 2013 and is an unmissable experience for the whole family!

What a journey!
It begins in the largest town in the Scottish Highlands (Fort William), a place that will wow you with its dramatic scenery – its destination, Mallaig: a hive of activity and gateway to beautiful Skye and the Small Isles (via ferry). Shops, bars, restaurants, places to walk - and fish and chips with a view! On the way there, you’ll have the pleasure of passing:

  • Arisaig Station - Britain's most westerly mainland railway station
  • Loch Morar - the deepest freshwater loch in Britain
  • River Morar - the shortest river in Britain
  • Loch Nevis - the deepest seawater loch in Europe
  • The village of Glenfinnan & the Glenfinnan viaduct – you’ll cross the 21-arched viaduct, which overlooks the magnificent Loch Shiel and the Jacobite monument. This is particularly exciting if you’re a Harry Potter fan – the Hogwarts Express passes over this very viaduct on its way to Hogwarts!).
  • The village of Lochailort – a hamlet with one of the most rugged landscapes in the Scottish Highlands.
  • Arisaig Village - on the sheltered shore of Loch nan Ceall. On a clear summer's day, you can see the ‘Small Isles’ of Rum, Eigg, Muck, Canna and the southern tip of Skye from this tranquil village on the shore of Loch nan Ceall.
  • Morar Village - and its silver sandy beaches
